President Obama's "historic" visit to Cuba has all the pageantry, chanting crowds and photo-op moments one would expect as an old Cold War estrangement is put to rest.
"U.S. President Barack Obama's trip to Cuba is seen widely as a historic move of Uncle Sam, but ultimate rapprochement with Cuba requires the United States to refrain from imposing its ideology on others and to treat others as equals," warned an opinion piece published by Xinhua, a Communist Party newswire.

Sure they rather be the one getting into Cuba and rip-off another Latin country, as they did in Africa and south Asia.
Washington Post is a major anti-Obama publication and much hated because of it.
Obama is doing the right thing, let recover all those lost countries to powers far away from the continent and recover our sphere of influence for the next 100 years at least.
Obama will be remembered as one of the most important presidents of the 21st Century.

Pretty hypocritical advice from a government that sends their State owned enterprises rambling through Africa bribing state officials to get their hands on raw materials there. Chinese are among the most hated in Africa and there have been violent attacks against them (if you do not believe it just google it, oh I forgot the Chinese government blocks google in China).

wow, the warnings china gives about the US are the very same ones we give about china. Truly, there is far more to lose in dealing with china than any other country

This is the right move for Cuba and the US, they're our neighbors. Perhaps China should be worrying more about how to lance the boil of North Korea that's festering on their rear end than about Cuba.

Geography is everything. China can invest billions and billions, but it will never trickle down to bettering the lives of cuban people, Russia tried, Venezuela attempted to do it, Spanish investors built hotels and resorts, with similar results. Opening the gates of trade and human interaction between Cubans and Americans will bring riches to millions of cubans, and already many cubans living in Miami and other parts of the US send money back home, helping regular cubans, and not the dictatorial regime and the bureaucratic elite, and improving their lives. It′s only a matter of time, and there will be nothing China or Russia or anyone can do to see how Cuba integrates into the economic forces in North America.

Beware of China's agenda. Cuba will soon see by comparison what being friends with Russia has cost them. I welcome Cuba back to the western world. I can remember when they left they were actually more developed than Mexico during that timeline. As far as Obama visiting, let us wait till later to see how it goes.

Why did Chinese media chide Cuba for warming up to the US? Has China abandoned its principle of non-interference in other countries' domestic affairs? No doubt Beijing sees America's expansion of economic relations with Cuba as a competition for influence.
In 2014 President Xi Jinping was in Cuba and his visit was seen as a deepening of a decades-old friendship - an opening of a new phase in bilateral ties. Yet it was also more business than politics, forging closing cooperation in areas including trade, agriculture, biotechnology and education. No wonder China is disappointed that Cuba welcomes Obama with open arms. Perhaps it was how the Soviet Union felt, when Nixon made his historic visit to China in 1972.

I'm an American living in China several years now. I've found insight here that contradicts the notions pushed on Americans, and Chinese, that the two nations are on a collision course. In reality China and USA represent the strongest alliance of any two nations in the world, locked in a symbiotic relationship of a mutually fertile economic dynamic, and serving one another -- in DC and Beijing -- as perpetual bogeymen to justify bureaucrats' waxing power and enrichment under the guise of mutual threat.
Take for example that any significant military event between the two nations would send home thousands of US firms and factories entrenched in China -- an outcome that would kill millions of jobs in China and leave Americans quickly facing empty store shelves. The American industry planted in China is at once employing Chinese and profiting US firms -- as millions of Chinese feed the juggernaut of American consumerism, in a mutually and irreversibly beneficial alliance. Meanwhile, so-called US allies such as Britain serve as convenient coalition-forming agents for the US's excursions, in exchange for US aid, but nothing tangibly more.
Further, as our potential and supposed ideological enemy, as DC repeats, the Chinese I've met show no passion for Maoism, and no love for the Marxism their forced under, and won't easily be sending their sons to do Beijing's bidding in a war against the US. As such, the notion that the US and China are on the verge of war, or will ever war with one another, is hogwash being fed to us from respective governments and attendant media, in my humble opinion.

If we were serious about opening up to Cuba... one of the first things to do is repeal the sugar industry subsidies/tariffs/quotas. Kept in place partly to damage Cuban sugar cane industry... to a detriment of our government debt and citizens health and it's intended target - Cubans.
